Bishop Castle

Image
We took a trip recently to Kansas which afforded me the opportunity to photograph some other areas I haven't been to. I was looking forward to photographing one spot in particular: Bishop Castle. Bishop Castle is located in Rye Colorado, about 40 miles southwest of Pueblo. The owner and building, Jim Bishop, has been working on this beautiful creation for over 60 years. The following is taken directly from their website: For nearly 60 years, Jim Bishop has been constructing one of the most impressive monuments to perseverance in Colorado. Bishop castle is a monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only Having a Dream, but Sticking with your Dream no matter what, and most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon ma

Camelback Gallery's Artist of the Month

Image
You read that right! For the Month of December (2021), I was chosen, along with six other artists, to be Camelback Gallery's Artist of the Month! I could not believe it! I was literally in tears when I read the email around 2:30 this morning. I honestly thought I lost since I didn't hear from them. But lo and behold, when I checked the monthly announcement email, I saw my name listed as Artist of the Month!     Camelback Gallery is an International Online Gallery that promotes artists' work by hosting online competitions, exhibitions, and featured artist residencies. They were founded in Scottsdale, Arizona in 2017, having upwards of 40,000+ site visitors a month. So to say that it is quite an honor & privilege that the CB Team chose my photo to be represented on their blog for Artist of the Month is not an understatement. Not only is my photo present on their blog, but it is also showcased on their Instagram and Facebook pages! View this post on Instagra

Featured in Photography Week Magazine!

Image
I know it's been a while since my last blog post, but I for sure haven't idle. I'm in the process of photographing and editing new photos, but that's not the main purpose of this post. As you can glean from the title, another one of my photos will be digitally published in a magazine! I am beyond thrilled!     Photography Week Magazine partnered with Guru Shots for the "Perfect Portrait" competition. I submitted a few photos for this competition, including some new pictures I recently took, but one, in particular, stood out.      This picture is from a photography session I did of my niece when she was two years old back in 2006. Her mom always asked me to take her yearly photos. In this photo, she looks almost like a porcelain doll. This photo has been very popular for years. One year, this photo placed 3rd in a local competition where hundreds of photos were submitted.  Since adding it to Guru Shots, it has received many achievements such as: Top 10% i

My 18th Publishing!

My 18th Magazine publishing is of Disneyland's California Adventures Pier before the Revamp. Budget Travel Magazine has partnered with Guru Shots to feature the Best Travel Photos in the world. Of course, Disney being my happy place, you shouldn't be surprised to see one of my photos entered in these contests. Longing for the good old days.  I've also been featured in other magazines recently, but haven't had a chance to share. So check back often to see more! Sarah Kay

Impressive Architecture Challenge

Image
This particular building has won me so many awards. The picture you'll be looking at is of an 1800's Kit house in Austin, Texas. It has actually appeared in a couple of small movies. The owner is renovating it back to its former glory. I took pictures of this building from different angles displaying the beauty in different lights.  So once again, Guru's teamed up with another magazine, this time Fstoppers, to feature the best photos in their Impressive Architecture Challenge. I was in the top 5% this time! I am so proud!! Check out the photo below. Below is a different view of the house that won me an award in the Architecture & Painting Photography 2020 Award Exhibition. Isn't she just beautiful! Maybe I will be able to take a trip back there and photograph it after the owner finishes renovating it. Sarah Kay
