Who is Sarah Kay?

Sarah Kay was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She has lived in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Dakota, and Colorado during her life, but has also visited many states including California, Alabama, Nevada, Utah, Texas just to name a few.

She grew up in North Fort Myers, Florida with her parents and two sisters. Her father was an Architectural Delineator for many years who had a love of photography and painting. Sarah quickly followed in this creative passion starting when she was 15. She worked as the editor for her high school yearbook for three years. Then in 1993, her senior year in High School, she won her first award for one of her photographs, receiving 1st place.

After High School, she worked for JC Penney in their Portrait Department, as well as doing freelance work for friends and family. In 2006, she won another award for a portrait she did of her two-year-old niece.

Sarah was never without her camera. She was always looking at the world through a photographer's eye. She took many trips in her life, always photographing the sites from angles that many wouldn't have considered. She isn't afraid of getting up close and personal with flowers or bugs or climbing into precarious positions just to get that perfect shot. Vacations are always a great opportunity for her to capture new and exciting shots.

One of the greatest experiences she has had in her life was the opportunity to travel to Taiwan... TWICE! She adopted her first son in 2006 and her second son in 2009, both of them from Taiwan. During her visit, she photographed as much as she could to preserve the memories and the beauty of the country.

For a while, she only took portraits for those in town that requested her for family and weddings, while they started their family. In the last couple of years, she decided to pick her camera up again, and being surrounded by old mines, ghost towns, and abundant beauty in Colorado, she started shooting the non-living mostly and allowing them to tell their stories of years gone by. She have a dream to do a series including people in the future, but that is yet to come. More recently, she has been entering different competitions from around the world, gaining recognition in many different countries. She has a love of photography that can not be beaten. Her photos bring so much joy to so many people and we can't wait to see what else she has to show us.
