Bishop Castle

We took a trip recently to Kansas which afforded me the opportunity to photograph some other areas I haven't been to. I was looking forward to photographing one spot in particular: Bishop Castle.

Bishop Castle is located in Rye Colorado, about 40 miles southwest of Pueblo. The owner and building, Jim Bishop, has been working on this beautiful creation for over 60 years. The following is taken directly from their website:

For nearly 60 years, Jim Bishop has been constructing one of the most impressive monuments to perseverance in Colorado. Bishop castle is a monumental statue in stone and iron that cries loud testament to the beauty and glory of not only Having a Dream, but Sticking with your Dream no matter what, and most importantly, that if you do believe in yourself and strive to maintain that belief, anything can happen! Three full stories of interior rooms complete with a Grand Ballroom, soaring towers and bridges with vistas of a hundred miles, and a Fire-Breathing Dragon make the Bishop Castle quite the unforgettable experience! - BishopCastle.org

There are some videos on youtube from visitors who have vlogged their experiences, but let me tell you, they don't do it justice. This place is amazing. I could spend hours photographing this magnificent creation.

A Few Of My Favorites

Bishop castle in Rye, Colorado inner stairway.
Natural light shines light on intricate snake like stairs,
handmade by one man over a period of 51 years.

I angled this scene meticulously so that the sculpture
of the arm would hopefully look like it's throwing
the light up into the glass part of the grand hall.

Here is a second angle on the same photo.
The light is not manipulated.
It is naturally shining through the structure
this way at this time and caught as is.

What else to do when one sees a maiden
all clad in gown and standing on top of a castle than to shoot her?
I mean photograph her?
